Does this organic intimate lubricant respect the osmolarity of my vagina?

The YESforLOV algae lubricant takes into account a fundamental data point that has a direct impact on the cellular health of the vaginal mucosa: osmolarity. 

The osmolarity of an intimate lubricant is important information to know because the cells of the vaginal mucosa are constantly trying to maintain a balance between the water pressure contained inside the cell and the surrounding environment (and therefore your intimate gel).  

With a hyper-osmotic intimate lubricant, the cells of the vaginal membrane will dry out to dilute the lubricant, thus leading to dehydration of the mucous membrane, irritations, and an increased sensitivity to bacterial infections.

Conversely, with a hypo-osmotic lubricant, the body's cells will try to absorb the water contained in the lubricant to rehydrate the tissues, but if it is extremely hypo-osmotic, it risks causing the rupture and death of said cells. 

Hypo-osmolar and hyper-osmolar intimate lubricating gels are suspected of tending to increase the risk of HIV and STI transmission and to slow down sperm migration and survival. As a reminder, the perfect osmolarity for sperm survival is approximately 360 mOsm/kg.

The best personal lubricants would therefore be iso-osmotic, meaning they would have an osmotic pressure equal to that of the vaginal mucosa, i.e., the same level of hydration as the body's cells. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that intimate lubricant manufacturers use an osmolarity of at least 32 mOsm/kg and not exceeding 380 mOsm/kg to avoid any risk of damaging the vaginal epithelium.However, the most well-known lubricant brands on the market often range between 2000 and 8000 mOsm/kg, while the WHO accepts a maximum of 1200 mOsm/kg.

The YESforLOV natural organic algae lubricant respects the physiological pH of your mucous membranes: this clearly means that it has a pH close to the intimate area so as not to disrupt your vaginal flora to the point of potentially causing dysbiosis. 

The YESforLOV natural glycerin-free lubricant preserves the acidity of the vagina and maintains the good balance of the vaginal microbiota. 

Depending on the menstrual cycle, the vaginal pH is rather acidic during the non-fertile period (3.5-4.5) and neutral or slightly more alkaline during the ovulatory phase.

The exact pH of the last batch of our production is 4.2.

The vaginal microbiota results from a relatively unstable balance that can be compromised by several factors such as stress, fatigue, and medication. Our advice is to rule out tampons and sanitary pads in favor of menstrual cups and to stop using your body shower gel on your mucous membranes.

It is important to mention that according to many infectious disease specialists, it is difficult to assert that the pH of an intimate hygiene product has an impact on vaginal pH because the vaginal cavity has its own acidity maintenance system.

Is glycerin in intimate lubricants dangerous? Why algae instead?
